History of Columere Park

Columere Park’s story began in 1959, when five individuals purchased approximately 105 residential lots on the shores of Columbia Lake and began developing the roads and infrastructure for what would become the community we know today. The first sales promotion was held in May 1960, and by the early 1960s, the first cottages and cabins were beginning to appear. What started primarily as a summer retreat gradually evolved as homes became larger and more families chose to make Columere Park their permanent home.

Community involvement has been at the heart of Columere Park from its earliest days. The Columere Park Community Association was formed around 1974–75, bringing residents together to care for shared amenities and address community needs. Over the years, volunteers helped develop and maintain the beach, marina, tennis court, playground and other facilities, while also organizing social events and working together to protect and improve the community.

Life at Columere Park has always been closely connected to the outdoors. Residents have enjoyed boating, fishing, swimming, windsurfing, skiing, golfing and countless gatherings with friends and neighbours. The original history describes everything from fishing for ling cod on Columbia Lake to community pancake breakfasts and beach activities—traditions that helped turn a collection of recreational properties into a true neighbourhood.

Today, Columere Park continues to reflect the qualities that attracted its earliest residents: the beauty of Columbia Lake, an active outdoor lifestyle and, most importantly, a strong sense of community. As the original history so warmly captures, it is the people and their willingness to contribute that have made Columere Park such a special place to call home.
